Set in the forest on the shores of Lake Akan within Akan Mashu National Park, "KAMUY LUMINA, an Akan Forest Night Walk" (hereafter Kamuy Lumina) unfolds under the theme of "coexistence with nature." It is a multimedia entertainment experience from Canadian company MOMENT FACTORY's globally acclaimed "Lumina Night Walk" series, utilizing light, sound, and video.

This is the world's first Lumina Night Walk to be held in a national park, and it seems to be drawing significant attention from both Japan and abroad.

The story is based on the Yukar (epic poems) that have been passed down among the Ainu people of Akan for generations. Participants walk along a 1.2km trail through the night forest, experiencing the world of the story across eight zones filled with installations using projection mapping and scenography (stage design with light and sound).

An essential companion on this adventure is the "Rhythm Stick," which is given to each person at the entrance to the forest. Modeled after a traditional Ainu staff, it plays narration and music and lights up in various colors in sync with the story's progression.

While feeling the nature of the Lake Akan forest, you become one of the characters alongside creatures like owls and jays. It's a truly new kind of activity! It's sure to captivate everyone, from children to adults.

In fact, Kamuy Lumina received the "Matching Award [Adventure Tourism x Digital Art]" at the "Cool Japan Matching Award 2022," which recognizes advanced Cool Japan initiatives.

Akanko Onsen has an Ainu settlement called a kotan, and the story of Kamuy Lumina was created under the supervision and in collaboration with the Ainu people. This collaboration between different fields and the local region is a major point of evaluation for the Cool Japan Matching Award.
