Tyrannosauruses stampeding across the vast lands of Hokkaido?! The "Tyrannosaurus Race" held in Naie Town, Hokkaido, has been featured in numerous media outlets and has become a hot topic. Illustrator Shaori (@shaoillust) was one of the participants. She reported on the hilariously chaotic event on Twitter.

This quirky "Tyrannosaurus Race" was held in Naie Town on September 24, 2022. While T-Rex races have been popular overseas for several years, this was the first time one was held in Hokkaido.

A member of Naie Town's Community-Reactivating Cooperator Squad came up with the idea as an event "to cheer everyone up," and about 100 "dinosaurs" gathered for the occasion. So, what was it actually like?

First things first, you can't skip the warm-up. The assembled tyrannosauruses are doing Japanese radio calisthenics. Jumping, stretching, and rotating their tiny arms. The sight of them diligently participating is wonderfully surreal. A wave of laughter slowly washes over you.

The categories were also meticulously planned, with divisions for "Adults" and "Juveniles," and the adult category further split into "Male" and "Female."

And then, the main event! The T-Rexes sprinted a 50-meter dash with all their might! Some dinosaurs were toppled by the wind, but their running was dead serious. Yet, their movements were so comical that you couldn't help but smile watching them.

Shaori, who participated in the race, was exhausted but managed to finish.
Her series of posts received many comments, such as "OMG, every little thing is hilarious," "This is insane, I can't stop laughing no matter how many times I watch it lol," and "This is just too much lol."

Shaori also released an illustrated report of the event. It really captures the fun atmosphere!

Her younger daughter is a huge dinosaur fan, which got her into dinosaurs as well. She was so dedicated that she even made the dinosaur costumes for the children who participated with her!

In the report, the town's mayor, also dressed as a dinosaur, is quoted as saying, "I want to hold the Tyrannosaurus Race in this town next year and the year after!"

The Tyrannosaurus Race in Naie Town was a huge success. It might just become a new signature event for the town for years to come.
