Enjoy a Relaxing Art Stay in Tokachi, Hokkaido! Create Your Own Artwork at Urahoro's Hahaha Hostel
How about an "Art Stay" in Tokachi, Hokkaido, where you can create art with a professional artist? This unique experience is offered at Hahaha Hostel, a guest house in Urahoro Town. This December, they are hosting "Art Stay in Wintery Urahoro, Hokkaido! - Creating Abstract Paintings with an Artist," and are now accepting applications for the 2-day, 1-night program.
The artist who will be spending time with participants is Maiko Shikato, who works out of her studio in Urahoro.
Maiko Shikato
Born in 1984 and raised in Tokyo. After graduating from the Art Course of the Department of Information Design at Tama Art University, she studied abroad as a research student in the Painting Department at Silpakorn University in Thailand, where she began creating abstract paintings. Her love of travel led her to continue her creative work while working at a hostel in Tokyo, exhibiting her art both in Japan and internationally. She received the Judge's Prize at SICF19 in 2018.
This experience is about rediscovering your own dormant sense of what feels good and creating a unique "abstract painting" together.
During your stay, you'll also have the chance to visit Maiko Shikato's studio and chat about her favorite books and movies. It's a truly special experience that only an Art Stay can offer. Here is the schedule for the stay:
Day 1
3:00 PM Meet up & Check-in
3:15 PM Visit Maiko Shikato's studio, followed by free time
6:30 PM Dinner at Hahaha Hostel
7:00 PM Mini-workshop (Introductions, sharing Shikato's creative process, keychain coloring activity)
9:00 PM Scheduled end

Day 2
Breakfast on your own (provided by Hahaha Hostel)
10:00 AM Abstract painting workshop begins

At the end of your stay, you can take home your completed abstract painting, as well as a postcard by Maiko Shikato and a Hokkaido animal keychain as souvenirs! The keychain is one you'll color yourself, making it a one-of-a-kind creation.
The stay also offers culinary delights. Dinner and breakfast will be prepared by Saori Kanno, COO of the organic craft beer brand "RIKKA" and an aroma artist.
Saori Kanno, who moved to Urahoro in October 2022, previously worked in cooking and other roles as a staff member at "Ohisama-ya," an organic macrobiotic cafe in her hometown of Sendai. She specializes in macrobiotic cuisine and hosted a lunch event called "Soup, Side Dishes, and Bread" in November 2022.
