Winter has arrived at the Kita-kitsune Farm. One morning, the Ezo red foxes were found leaping and bounding across the freshly fallen snow. They look incredibly happy.

Kita-kitsune Farm, Home to Ezo Red Foxes

Located in Kitami City, Hokkaido, the Kita-kitsune Farm (@kitakitsunefarm) is home to about 50 Ezo red foxes (Kita-kitsune). The Ezo red fox is native to all of Hokkaido and is slightly larger than the Honshu fox found on Japan's main island.

The foxes here have been raised at the farm since birth. Therefore, there is no risk of Echinococcus infection, and visitors can see them up close.

It's a rare opportunity to see foxes with such adorable expressions and behaviors. If you look closely, you'll notice that even though they are all "Ezo red foxes," each one has a unique face and personality. They each have their own names, which are introduced on the farm's social media along with their photos.

Ezo Raccoon Dogs Welcoming Winter Together

At the Kita-kitsune Farm, a family of Ezo raccoon dogs also lives alongside the foxes. If you're lucky, you might even witness the friendly interactions between the foxes and raccoon dogs, a sight rarely seen in the wild. As more snow accumulates, you can see the foxes become even more active, diving and burying themselves in the pure white snow.

When visiting, there are a few rules to follow. For example, "Do not bring your face close to the foxes," "Do not crouch down when a fox is nearby," and "Do not reach out or try to touch them." By observing these rules, why not spend a relaxing and healing time with the laid-back foxes?
