Hokkaido Mirai Note (76): Shakotan's Legendary Heart Island, and More!
Once again, we've selected three wonderful photos of Hokkaido's beautiful landscapes, all captured and submitted by our readers!
Heart Island (Shakotan Town)
This is Takarajima Island, a symbol of Bikuni located just off Cape Ogon. It is said to have gotten its name, which means "Treasure Island," from the great schools of herring that once brought immense wealth to the area.
This photo was taken with a drone from 500 meters above.

Takarajima Island, shaped like a heart, can be seen from Cape Ogon in Shakotan Town 🏝
The island is associated with an ancient, tragic love story called the "Legend of Chashina." Looking it up before you go might make your visit even more interesting 💡
That said, it's also known as an island of good fortune, so be sure to visit the beautiful Shakotan Blue sea, Cape Ogon, and Takarajima Island!
Hakucho Bridge Spanning the Inlet at Dusk (Muroran City)
A composition of the Muroran Hakucho Bridge and the sunset. The sunset is beautiful every time I shoot here, making it one of my favorite spots. When the sea breeze is gentle, the sunset reflects in a straight line on the water's surface.
I highly recommend visiting with a camera at dusk.
Although, you'll be surrounded by fishermen...

This is the largest suspension bridge in eastern Japan and a symbol of Muroran 🌉!
It's also depicted on the newly designed municipal welcome sign for Muroran City.
They say the Hakucho Bridge can be seen from almost anywhere in the city, so try looking for it from various locations to find your favorite view 👀
Sea Smoke and Swans (Tomakomai City)
This is a moving photo I took at Lake Utonai, a place I often visit for photography. On a cold morning, I was able to capture the beautiful sea smoke and elegant swans together.

Known as a treasure trove of flora and fauna and a paradise for wild birds, Lake Utonai is home to rich nature including wilderness and wetlands, where over 270 species of wild birds can be seen 🔭
It's an important stopover for migratory birds! During the current winter season, swans, ducks, and white-tailed eagles can be seen until spring 🦢
Come and enjoy the nature and wild birds that change with the seasons!
