SPOT 1 Experience the Power of a Volcano: Mt. Usu

Mt. Usu is recommended for beginners and families who want to enjoy hiking with ease, as there is a ropeway that takes you near the summit. You can climb to the outer rim to enjoy the powerful volcanic scenery and stunning views. It is also a popular tourist spot as part of a Geopark. This year, the mountain opening and safety prayer festival were held on April 29.

This is a great course for beginners, and you can reach the summit in about 2 hours. At a junction along the way, there is a detour path where you can enjoy a leisurely climb through a beech forest. On a clear day, the summit offers views of Mt. Oshamanbe, Mt. Oohira, the Sea of Japan, the Pacific Ocean, and even Mt. Yotei and the Niseko mountains in the distance.
