There are many major carbonated beverages, but there are many people who can't get enough of that exquisite carbonation they drank as a child! There are many people who can't get enough of that exquisite carbonation that they drank as a child. In this issue, we will look into the secrets of Ribbon Napolin and Ribbon Citron, which have been loved by Hokkaido-area residents for over a century.
History of Ribbon Citron & Ribbon Napolin
Ribbon Citron and Ribbon Napolin are carbonated beverages sold exclusively in Hokkaido and currently marketed by Sapporo Holdings' Pokka Sapporo Food & Beverage Co. Citron and Napolin, which did not bear the name "Ribbon" when first launched, were created in 1909 and 1911, respectively. At the time, Citron was made in reference to lemon water, which was said to be good for one's health in Europe, while Napolin was made using blood orange juice.
The "ribbon" was added to the name of each product in 1914, three years after Napolyn was introduced to the market. The ribbon itself was very popular at the time, and the reason for this was to give the product name a more luxurious image.
In 1957, 43 years after the Ribbon brand was created, the Ribbon-chan character was born, Ribbon Citron celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2009, and Ribbon Naporin celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011. Although the label design has changed periodically, both Citron and Napolin are carbonated beverages that all Hokkaido-area residents are familiar with, and they have been quenching everyone's thirst through the ages.
Secrets of the taste and color of Ribbon Citron & Ribbon Napolin
Ribbon Citron and Ribbon Napolin are standard carbonated beverages for Hokkaidō residents, but what makes them different from other carbonated beverages? First of all, Ribbon Citron, which is clear and colorless, has the appeal of a gulp of carbonation that is stimulating and refreshing. It is softly scented with the aroma of "Hatsu-harvested lemon" and is very easy to drink. It is currently sold in 1.5L PET bottles and 190ml cans, and can often be found in supermarkets and drugstores in Hokkaido.
Ribbon Napolin is a naturally derived, gentle beverage. Naporin-flavored, with a strong sweetness and carbonation, is made with beet sugar from Hokkaido. The striking warm orange color is extracted from plant-derived paprika pigment. This warm, dark orange color may also be the key to its popularity in Hokkaido. The Naporin lineup includes 1.5L, 470ml, 340ml, and 190ml types. It can be purchased at many places such as souvenir shops, supermarkets, and convenience stores.
