April in Hokkaido is a time of warmth and the breath of spring. In some areas, cherry blossoms begin to bloom. Here are nine carefully selected events held in Hokkaido during this pleasant month of April!

1. "Hokuto Sakura Corridor Cherry Blossom Tour Bus" (Hokuto City )
This is a one-day bus tour of the Hokuto Sakura Corridor, which connects famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Hokuto City. Visitors can fully enjoy some of the most famous cherry blossom spots in southern Hokkaido, such as Hokkameji Temple's weeping cherry trees, the cherry blossom tunnel at the site of the Matsumae Domain's Togirichi camp, the rows of cherry trees along the Ono River, and Kiyokawa Senbonzakura.
The buses are special vehicles with open roofs, and the cherry blossom scenery overhead is breathtaking. In addition, night cruising allows visitors to enjoy a different atmosphere than during the day.

2 Kuriyama Old-established Store Festival 2024: Enjoy local flavors and traditions representative of Kuriyama Town (Kuriyama Town)
This popular annual festival attracts many people to Kuriyama Town. The "Kitano-Nishiki Sake Brewery Festival" of Kobayashi Sake Brewery, which produces popular brands of Hokkaido rice sake such as "Kitano-Nishiki," and the "Kibidango Festival" of Yata Confectionery, known for its "Japan's Best Kibidango" with the familiar Momotaro package, will be held. On the same day, the "Furusato Countryside Festival" will also be held, where local restaurants and other businesses will gather.
At the "Kitanonishiki Sake Brewery Festival," the Kobayashi Sake Brewery will open its doors to the public once a year for the only time in the year, selling sake only available at the festival, which can of course be enjoyed at the venue. At the "Kibidango Festival," visitors can take a tour of the Yata Confectionery factory, and enjoy the sale of sweets and other items unique to the town of Kuriyama. At the "Furusato Countryside Festival," there will be stalls selling local delicacies and a large lottery.

3 A valuable experience to touch fossils "Let's become a fossil doctor! 2024GW" (Mikasa City)
An event where visitors can enjoy learning about fossils through hands-on experience will be held during the Golden Week holidays at the Mikasa City Museum, which exhibits about 1,000 fossils, including ammonites discovered in Hokkaido, and is known as the largest ammonite museum in Japan.
At the event, children can experience "exhibition interpretation tours," "fossil replica making," "fossil cleaning," and other activities that children will enjoy. In addition to fossils, there is also an exhibit about the history of Mikasa City, which is recommended to take a closer look after the fossil experience.

4 Carp streamers fluttering in popular hot spring resort "The 38th Jozankei Onsen Stream Carp Streamers" (Sapporo )
Now in its 38th year, the Jozankei Onsen Carp Stream Carp Stream Festival is a springtime tradition in Jozankei Onsen. Carp streamers of various sizes, gathered from all over the city and Hokkaido, will be fluttering in the sky at various locations in Jozankei Onsen, one of the most popular hot spring resorts in Hokkaido.
The carp streamers fluttering in the sky in the changing scenery of Jozankei, such as the beautiful mountains with lingering snow, the cherry blossoms turning pink in the hot spring resort area, and the autumn leaves that can only be seen for a short period of time, are all signs that spring has come. Why not combine your visit to the hot springs with the soothing sight of carp swimming in the sky?

5 Workshop for learning geography while having fun: "The 1st Watershed Puzzle Making" (Kitahiroshima City)
This workshop is held by Little Free Library & Museum Cheisana Sail, an unmanned little library located in the garden of a house in Kitahiroshima City. The library has held various workshops in the past, but this time it will be held under the new title of "Geography Club Hajimasumashimasu" (Let's start a geography club).
In the first session of the Geography Club, participants created puzzles with pieces of Hokkaido divided into "watersheds. This is an event filled with the warmth that only Chiisana Sail can offer, where both adults and children can enjoy geography while chatting together.

6 The 43rd Lake Toya Long-Run Fireworks Display, fireworks launched from the lake (Toyako Town)
Lake Toya Onsen is a resort area that boasts beautiful nature and excellent spring water quality, and is popular not only in Hokkaido but also overseas. The "Toyako Long-Run Fireworks Festival" is a famous event that takes place over a period of six months at Lake Toya. During this period, fireworks are shot off over Lake Toya every night to the delight of guests staying at the hot springs.
The fireworks display is characterized by the fact that fireworks are shot off from boats moving around Lake Toya. Therefore, the fireworks can be seen from various directions in the hot spring resort, and depending on the hotel, the approaching fireworks can also be enjoyed from the windows of guest rooms and outdoor hot spring baths.
Date and time: Sunday, April 28 - Thursday, October 31, from 20:45 every night (for about 20 minutes)
The festival will be held rain or shine, but may be cancelled if the wind direction or speed is unstable.

7 "Storytelling Love Flute: 30th Anniversary Special of Chiisana Ehonya Hidamari" (Sapporo), a story set to music
In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Chiisana Ehonya Hidamari, a picture book specialty store in Shinbassamu, Sapporo, a reading concert "Storytelling Love Flute" will be held to deliver stories accompanied by improvised performances of love flutes (Indian flutes).
In conjunction with the "Kikuchi Chiki: Original Drawings of Picture Book Studies" exhibition being held in the store, Kikuchi Chiki's picture books will be read aloud to the audience and accompanied by music. The beautiful sound of Shoichi Ono's love flute and the gentle voice of Yuu Usagi, a reader who also works as a picture book therapist, will bring you into the world of Kikuchi Chiki's picture books.

8 "The 34th Rekibune River Clear Stream Carp Stream Carp Streamers" (Taiki Town) 236 carp streamers swimming on the river
Rekibune River, which runs 64.7 km long through Taiki Town, is a clear stream that has been selected as the cleanest river in Japan in the past. Every year from late April to early May, many carp streamers swim along the Rekibune River. The river is decorated with as many as 236 carp streamers, named after National Route 236 where the festival is held, and has become a springtime tradition in Taiki Town.
The carp streamers decorated are made from disused carp streamers in the town, and the event is filled with memories of the town's residents. Small carp streamers will also be set up on the riverbanks as photo spots, so you can take commemorative photos as a new memory.

9 Experience the spring nature of Mibaka Town "The 26th Mibaka Birch Sap Spring Festival" (Mibaka Town)
The 26th Mibuka Birch Sap Spring Festival is an event where visitors can enjoy the arrival of spring in Mibuka Town after the snow melts, and experience collecting precious birch sap, which can only be collected from mid-April to early May. In addition to sap collection, visitors can also experience other activities that allow them to experience nature.
Visitors can experience sap collection by making a hole in a tree trunk, and after collecting sap, they can enjoy a walk on snowshoes or a snowmobile test-ride. Stalls will be set up at the event, selling cosmetics made from birch sap, Mibuka's specialties, spring-dried potatoes, and more.
