Asahikawa's iconic summer event, the "Asahikawa Summer Festival," will be held for three days from Thursday, July 31st to Saturday, August 2nd. A variety of events will color Asahikawa's short summer, including the "Doshin Noryo Fireworks Festival" that kicks off the event, and the "Rekka Tanabata Festival" featuring parades of floats and dancers. Here's a detailed look at the highlights of the Asahikawa Summer Festival.

On the evening of the first day, July 31st, an opening ceremony and attractions will be held at the Ishikari River Asahibashi Riverside venue, followed by a fireworks display to kick off the festival. Approximately 4,000 fireworks, including creative designs and various star mines, will illuminate the summer night sky of Asahikawa.

On the second day, the "Citizen's Dance Parade" will take place at Kaimono Koen, where about 2,000 citizens will dance through the street to the tune of the Kanko Asahikawa Ondo. In the evening, the "YOSAKOI Soran Night" stage will be held. Teams from the YOSAKOI Soran Kamikawa Chuo Branch will perform their brilliant and powerful dances.

On the final day, the "Daisetsu Rengo Mikoshi," the highlight of the Asahikawa Summer Festival, will take place. Mikoshi (portable shrines) will be carried through Kaimono Koen with perfectly synchronized chants.

The grand finale is the "Rekka Tanabata Festival." The festival concludes with elaborately planned events, including a Taiko YOSAKOI Festival, a dynamic parade of floats, and a moving finale performance.

At the "Sanroku Festival," held over three days from Thursday, July 31st, you can enjoy a wide variety of food, with about 50 stalls lining the streets, a gourmet expo, and more. Various stage events are also planned, bringing great excitement to the Sanroku district.
