Lucky Pierrot: Hakodate's Beloved Local Burger Chain and Its Irresistible Menu
Among the many local burgers across Japan, Lucky Pierrot, a handmade burger chain from Hakodate, is a local soul food that's also incredibly popular with tourists. Despite the constant queues, this beloved establishment, affectionately known as "Rappi," operates exclusively in the Southern Hokkaido (Donan) area, centered around Hakodate. Let's dive into the popular and recommended menu items of this unique burger joint.

The Bay Area Main Store, with lines forming even at night.
With 17 stores in the Southern Hokkaido area centered around Hakodate, Lucky Pierrot was founded in 1987 by Ichiro Oh from Kobe. Drawing on his experience running a Chinese restaurant in Chiba Prefecture, he developed numerous menu items incorporating the deliciousness of Chinese cuisine. He pays close attention to the quality of every ingredient, down to seasonings like salt and soy sauce, creating a refined taste.
What Do the Overwhelmingly Popular "Chinese Chicken Burger" and "Lakipote" Taste Like?
The No. 1 Bestseller: Chinese Chicken Burger (462 yen for eat-in, 454 yen for takeout).
The quintessential Lucky Pierrot item is, without a doubt, the popular "Chinese Chicken Burger," nicknamed "Chaichiki." It features three large pieces of fried chicken coated in a generous sweet and savory sauce. When you take a hot bite, the savory flavor of the meat slowly spreads through your mouth! This is complemented by the crisp texture of fresh lettuce and the subtle tang of the fan-favorite mayonnaise, creating a perfectly balanced masterpiece.
Also popular: "Lakipote" (Lucky Fries) (440 yen for eat-in, 432 yen for takeout).
Furthermore, the number one side order, "Lakipote," consists of hearty French fries generously topped with meat sauce, white sauce, and cheese, making it a rich and satisfying dish. For drinks, the fragrant oolong tea is a popular choice. If you're a first-timer, you can't go wrong with the "Dantotsu Ninki No. 1 Set" (The Overwhelmingly Popular No. 1 Set), which includes all of these items (968 yen for eat-in, 950 yen for takeout)!
More Than Just Burgers! The Hearty "Omu-rice" is Also a Must-Try
The substantial and voluminous Omu-rice (682 yen for eat-in, 670 yen for takeout).
While Lucky Pierrot is famous for its burgers, it also offers a wide variety of other dishes that are especially popular among seasoned "Rappi" fans. The Omu-rice (Japanese omelette rice), available only at select stores, is a massive dish made with 330g of ketchup rice wrapped in four eggs.
The thick egg omelette is well-cooked yet fluffy.
It has a substantial presence, as if the ketchup rice is tucked under a thick blanket of egg. The ingredients are simple—just onions and pork. This simplicity allows the flavor of each component to shine, all brought together by a special tomato sauce. With various toppings like Chinese chicken, tonkatsu (pork cutlet), potatoes, and curry sauce, you'll be captivated by the sheer variety, rivaling that of a specialty restaurant.
A Diverse Menu Including Ankake Yakisoba, Pizza, and Ramen

Another highlight is the "Ankake Yakisoba" (fried noodles with a thick, starchy sauce), served at only three of the 17 stores. Thick Chinese noodles are fried to a crispy, fragrant perfection and topped with a generous soy-based sauce filled with shrimp, meat, and plenty of vegetables. While rich with the savory flavors of its ingredients, this voluminous dish is surprisingly light and easy to eat.

In addition, different stores offer various other menu items such as hamburger steaks, pizza, meat spaghetti, sauce yakisoba, and ramen. This taste, loved by locals for years, can only be experienced in the Southern Hokkaido area. To conquer the entire menu, you'll find yourself wanting to visit Hakodate again and again!
