Popping its head out of a hole in the snow is... a wild Ezo kuroten (Japanese sable)! This is an animal from the weasel family that inhabits Hokkaido. With its innocent expression, a bit of snow on its nose, and a playful flick of its tongue, comments like "too cute" and "adorable" poured in, and many people found its appearance heartwarming.

Capturing the Rarely Seen "Ezo Sable"

These photos were taken by Tak, a photographer in Hokkaido. He has also captured other lively shots of the Ezo sable, such as it munching on snow and playing with its face covered in it.

Although the Ezo sable is incredibly cute, it is actually a very cautious and rare animal that is difficult to encounter. If you are lucky enough to spot one in the forest, please watch over it quietly from a distance.
