SPOT 1Shirogane Aoi Ike

白金青い池

A mysterious pond where the surface of the water appears blue. Standing dead larch trees create a fantastic atmosphere. In midwinter, the pond freezes over and is illuminated at night. Visitors can enjoy the pond's different appearances in each of the four seasons.
Blue Pond Light-up period: until April 30, 2021.

SPOT 2Miyama Pass

深山峠

Fukayama Pass, located on the border of Kamifurano Town and Biei Town in Hokkaido, is a superb road view spot.
It is truly a spectacular spot representing the Taisetsu-Furano Route, with a magnificent view of the Tokachi Mountain Range beyond the rolling hills.
Visitors can enjoy the seasonal changes in scenery: lavender in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and a silvery-white world in winter.

SPOT 3Birch Road

白樺街道

Road 966 Tokachidake Onsen Biei Line, also known as "Shirakaba Kaido," leads from Biei to Shirogane Onsen.
It is a beautiful road with two majestic mountains, Mt. Biei on the front right and Mt. Bieifuji on the left, and rows of white birch trees stretching on both sides.
In addition, a 3-km stretch of the Shirakaba promenade from Aoi Ike to Shirogane Onsen is a pleasant spot to take a walk in summer in the sunlight filtering through the trees.

SPOT 4Daisetsu Asahidake source water

大雪旭岳源水

Taisetsu Asahidake Genmizu" is a mysterious water that has permeated through the filter of nature over a long period of time. It is the highest quality water from Higashikawa, a town with no public water supply system, which is rare in Japan.
Rich in minerals and well balanced, this natural water is so popular that many people bring tanks and plastic bottles to fetch water every day. Anyone can freely draw water.

Scenic Byways is an initiative by local residents, working hand in hand with businesses and government agencies, to create unique and vibrant communities, landscapes, and attractive tourist spaces.
The program started in 2005, and as of the end of December 2019, there are 13 designated routes and 3 candidate routes, with approximately 440 organizations involved in activities.
