Light Shining on Crystal Ice (Betsukai Town)
In late December, the 'Crystal Ice' formed as the river froze, and the sun rising from behind a lone pine tree was incredibly striking.
It was very cold, but I was moved by the scenery that can only be seen at this time of year.

If your timing is right, you can take a picture with the drift ice in the background. This was my second visit, and unfortunately, I couldn't capture the drift ice this time either, but I was able to photograph the Senmo Main Line train running through the snow after sunset.

Seeing the drift ice is a unique winter experience on the Sea of Okhotsk, a sight we highly recommend you see at least once.
There are also experiences and facilities where you can not only see but also touch the drift ice, so be sure to enjoy those as well.
Planetarium on the Hill (Biei Town)
In the bitter cold, I came here wanting to capture the winter Milky Way together with the trees.
The conditions were so good that I could see the Milky Way with the naked eye, and I enjoyed the natural planetarium while taking photos.
