Biei Town

At a haskap farm in Biei, Hokkaido, a wild Ezo mountain hare is playing an active role as an "adorable employee"! The sight of the hare munching away intently on haskap has been attracting attention on social media.

The wild rabbits are eating our blueberries again this year. Hokkaido has been experiencing unusually hot weather this year, which has led to a lot of hornets, so we're grateful to them for cleaning up by eating the blueberries at the bottom that aren't for sale, so that we don't leave any fruit lying around. Our family is short on labor, so having these cute little employees is a lifesaver every year.

The video shows a Siberian snow hare munching away at haskap berries. If the fallen blueberries were left unattended, it would cause an infestation of hornets, so the rabbit is helping out as a "cute employee." By eating the fallen blueberries, it protects the farm.

This heartwarming scene has received over 140,000 likes on X, with comments such as "They're coming to work seasonally," "It's an ideal symbiosis," and "They're wonderful employees."

It seems that new "newcomers" were spotted in 2025, and the farm is becoming even more lively.

A baby Ezo snow hare. This is a different individual from the one we spotted in May. New lives are being born one after another, connecting to the next generation. Thank you for being born.
