Hakodate's largest summer festival, the Hakodate Port Festival, will be held from August 1st (Friday) to August 5th (Tuesday), 2025! With fireworks set to the music of Hakodate-born band GLAY, stages, and street stalls, the entire city of Hakodate will be transformed into a festival. We'll introduce you to the five days packed with highlights that are enjoyable for families and tourists alike.

What is the Hakodate Port Festival?
The Hakodate Port Festival is Hakodate's largest summer festival, held every year from August 1st to 5th in Hakodate, Hokkaido. It is a historic festival that began in 1935 in celebration of the city's recovery from the Great Hakodate Fire of 1934. On the first day, the Doushin Fireworks Display features fireworks that light up the night sky of Hakodate, and on the second day, the Wasshoi Hakodate event is held, where locals parade through the city dancing the Hakodate Port Dance and the Hakodate Squid Dance. During the festival, numerous street stalls are set up, mainly in the Daimon district and Hakodate Green Plaza.
Day 1, August 1st (Friday): "70th Doushin Fireworks Festival" and more
The highlight of the first day is the 70th Doushin Fireworks Festival. The planned program will consist of five parts, with wide star mines, impressive 100cm fireworks, special fireworks, and underwater fireworks all launched to music. The fireworks launched from Hakodate Port are truly impressive! The third part will also feature a collaboration with music by GLAY, a local rock band from Hakodate. Entitled "GLAY x Fireworks ~DREAMY~," you can enjoy a collaboration between GLAY's music and fireworks.

Young Power Rock Festival "Ride on Natsu" (Venue: Suehiro Arcade) 7:45 PM - 8:50 PM: 70th Doushin Fireworks Festival (Venue: Hakodate Port Area / Launch Site: Green Island) *The event will proceed even if it rains lightly. If it is cancelled due to rain, it will be postponed to the 5th.
Day 2 - August 2 (Sat): "Wasshoi Hakodate (Jujigai/Matsukaze Course)" and more
On the second and third days, the "Wasshoi Hakodate" parade is held. Many locals dress up in their own costumes and parade through the city, dancing the "Hakodate Port Dance" and "Hakodate Squid Dance," creating such excitement that spectators along the road also join in the fun. The powerful portable shrines leading the parade and the gorgeously decorated floats are a must-see in Hakodate's main summer parade.
