Huge fireworks floating over the harbor, the enthusiastic "squid dance," a Hakodate specialty, and jazz music reverberating through Beer Park. Hakodate's largest summer festival, the Hakodate Port Festival, will be held from August 1st (Friday) to 5th (Tuesday), 2025! The whole city of Hakodate will be transformed into a festival, with fireworks set to the music of Hakodate-born band GLAY, stages and outdoor stalls. We will thoroughly introduce the five days packed with attractions that are fun for families and tourists alike.

What is the Hakodate Port Festival?
Hakodate Port Festival is the largest summer festival in Hakodate, Hokkaido, held every year from August 1st to 5th in Hakodate City. It is a historic festival that began in 1935 in anticipation of the city's recovery from the Great Hakodate Fire in 1934. On the first day, the Doushin Fireworks Display features fireworks that light up the night sky of Hakodate, and on the second day, the Wasshoi Hakodate is held, where citizens parade through the city dancing the Hakodate Port Dance and Hakodate Squid Dance. During the festival, numerous outdoor stalls are set up around the Daimon district and Hakodate Green Plaza.
Day 1, August 1st (Friday): "70th Doushin Fireworks Festival" etc.
The highlight of the first day is the 70th Doushin Fireworks Festival. The program is scheduled to be made up of five parts, with wide star mines, impressive shakudama fireworks, special fireworks, underwater fireworks, and more set off in time with music. The fireworks launched from Hakodate Port are spectacular! The third part will also feature a collaboration with music by GLAY, a local rock band from Hakodate. Titled "GLAY x Fireworks ~DREAMY~," you can enjoy a collaboration between GLAY music and fireworks.

Young Power Rock Festival "Ride on Natsu" (Venue: Suehiro Arcade) 19:45-20:50: 70th Doushin Fireworks Festival (Venue: Hakodate Port Area / Launch Site: Green Island) *The event will proceed even if it rains lightly. If it is cancelled due to rain, it will be postponed to the 5th.
Day 2 - August 2 (Saturday): "Wassoi Hakodate (Jujigai/Matsukaze Course)" etc.
On the second and third days, the "Wassoi Hakodate" parade is held. Many locals dress up in their own costumes and parade through the city dancing the "Hakodate Port Dance" and "Hakodate Squid Dance," creating such excitement that spectators along the road also begin dancing. This is Hakodate's main summer parade, and you can't miss the powerful portable shrines that lead the parade and the gorgeously decorated floats.
