These are fly agaric mushrooms found by staff in the Takino Forest in autumn. With their vibrant red and white pattern, they look beautiful and fairytale-like, but they are also known as "poisonous mushrooms" with strong toxicity to humans.
This social media post garnered comments like "They're cute as long as you don't eat them!", "What a cute mushroom," and "Such a beautiful pattern," becoming a hot topic with over 15,000 likes. However, the mushrooms that were visible until yesterday had completely vanished by the next morning.
The fly agaric mushrooms that were here in abundance yesterday are all gone 🤯
And for some reason, the security camera malfunctioned and didn't record anything...
I'll check the surrounding area to investigate the cause!

When the staff checked the security camera to find the culprit, it had unexpectedly malfunctioned. They then decided to search the surrounding area to find the cause.
A Camera Caught the "Culprit"!? Its True Identity Is...
Fortunately, a camera located a short distance away had clearly recorded a figure that looked like the culprit.
A camera we set up on a fly agaric mushroom about 10 meters away from the ones that disappeared captured what appears to be the culprit!!
It was such a nice sight, I wish they had waited a little longer...

What it captured was a deer! In fact, here in Takino Forest, there was a past story involving an Ezo squirrel and a deer over fly agaric mushrooms. At that time, the Ezo squirrel found the mushrooms first! It was enjoying them little by little when a deer appeared later and ate them all. When the squirrel saw the aftermath, it looked around in confusion, a slightly sad turn of events.
This time too, the deer ate all the mushrooms before the Ezo squirrel could find them.
An animal that looked like an Ezo squirrel was also captured on the same camera as the deer, but it seems it just passed by this time.

Be Careful, Fly Agaric Mushrooms Are Highly Poisonous!
However, a few days later, the staff found more fly agaric mushrooms in a different location!
To reiterate, these fly agaric mushrooms are poisonous to humans. While some regions reportedly eat them after removing the toxins, please assume they are poisonous and be extremely careful.
This was a story about the animals and the fly agaric mushrooms, quietly unfolding in the autumn forest. We hope you will also enjoy the feeling of autumn in the forest while gently observing the workings of nature.
