"Glad You're Safe!" - Super Chill Wild Tanuki in Hokkaido Goes Viral, Sparking Comments Like "You Need More Urgency!"
Greetings. This is a tanuki (raccoon dog) that was almost hit by a car but got distracted by its own shadow and started looking at it instead.
From a post by @nippou_
It was a wild tanuki that suddenly popped out from the bushes. Although five tanuki appeared unexpectedly, they were safe thanks to the driver who sensed their presence and hit the brakes. The tanuki's reluctance to move afterward sparked a flurry of comments on social media, such as "The most important thing is that it's safe," "That's your shadow, not what you should be worried about..." and "You adorable tanuki, please be careful around cars." The post received a huge response with over 30,000 likes.
"So Lacking in Urgency, It's Worrisome..." What Happened to the Tanuki Afterward?
We spoke with the original poster to find out what happened to the tanuki.
After staring at its shadow for a while, it just waddled back into the bushes. I'm worried about its future because it has so little sense of danger. I'll be sure to watch out for rustling bushes and tanuki darting out when driving on night roads from now on.
It's common for wild animals to appear on roads in Hokkaido, but it becomes a serious issue when a carefree, waddling tanuki wanders onto the road. When driving in Hokkaido, please be extra cautious of wildlife darting out.
