The person who posted this fantastical photo is "Mashuko no Ice," a maker of local soft-serve ice cream and gelato at the foot of Lake Mashu. They described the situation at the time of the shooting:
I took this photo around 8:00 PM on November 12th at the Lake Mashu First Observatory. Landscape photography is a hobby of mine, and I enjoy capturing beautiful moments in the area and sharing them on social media for everyone to enjoy. This time, there was information that a strong solar flare eruption a few days prior made it highly likely that an aurora could be seen in Hokkaido, so I went to try and capture it.
Although it wasn't as vividly red to the naked eye as it appears in the photos, seeing the beautiful starry sky and the red aurora captured in the picture gave me a very mystical feeling.
A shimmering red aurora reflecting on the lake's surface, with the Milky Way flowing through a star-filled sky—it was truly a "miraculous moment" presented by the unique landscape of Hokkaido's Lake Mashu.
