Teshikaga Town, located in eastern Hokkaido, has a population of about 7,000 and is blessed with vast natural landscapes, covering more than half of Akan-Mashu National Park. It is easily accessible, about 80 minutes by train from Kushiro City, and serves as a major tourism hub in eastern Hokkaido.
The town features a cool climate year-round, with particularly cold winters. However, many clear days provide crisp air and stunning scenery. The seasonal landscapes are striking, especially in winter when the frozen environment creates a magical atmosphere.
Highlights include Lake Mashu, known for having some of the clearest waters in the world, Lake Kussharo, one of Japan’s largest caldera lakes, and the active volcanic Mount Iō. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of hot springs, including Kawayu Onsen, making it a popular destination for both nature and relaxation.
