Like Stepping into a Storybook! The Breathtaking White Birch Avenue at Tokachi Farm
Tokachi Farm is located about a 30-minute drive from JR Obihiro Station.
It's a popular spot for tourists, offering plenty of photogenic scenery, but the one sight you absolutely can't miss is the Tokachi Farm White Birch Tree Avenue.
Its romantic and fantastical scenery is sure to leave anyone mesmerized!
As you turn off Hokkaido Prefectural Road 133 (the Otofuke-Shintoku Line) towards Tokachi Farm, the birch tree avenue immediately comes into view. While birch trees are a common sight in Hokkaido, the view of them lined up so perfectly on both sides of the road for about 1.3 km is truly breathtaking. It feels as if you've wandered into a storybook, offering a brief escape from the everyday.
While the avenue once boasted as many as 660 birch trees, many have passed their natural lifespan, and a 10-year restoration project has been underway since 2014. The plan is to replace severely damaged trees with new saplings. As of April 2021, 277 trees have been felled and 88 new saplings have been planted.
The avenue is expected to eventually have around 340 to 350 trees. This beautiful landscape, which has also served as a filming location for movies and TV dramas, is carefully preserved by human hands.
The distinctively white trunks of the birch trees stand out against the fresh green of early summer and blend seamlessly into the snowy landscapes of deep winter. This romantic scenery, which reveals different expressions with each season, is without a doubt worth seeing.
