“Where’s the familiar face?” Sapporo Susukino’s Famous “Nikka Uncle” Sign is Under Renewal! New Look to be Unveiled on April 7th
When you think of a symbol of Sapporo's Susukino Crossing, bustling with tourists, the giant Nikka Whisky neon sign comes to mind. Now, this beloved sign, affectionately known as the "Nikka Uncle," is undergoing a change. What exactly is happening?
Where the large “Nikka Uncle” usually stands, there is now a message that reads, “The face of Susukino is changing. (Just a little bit).” The sign is actually under renewal and is currently covered. On March 26th, Nikka Whisky's official X account formally announced the renewal, sparking various comments from locals such as, “I can't wait to see what it'll look like,” “It feels lonely without the Uncle,” and “I wonder if it will be animated?”
