Creating the Future of Eastern Hokkaido With Our Own Hands! A Vision Book Project to Gather 1,000 Ideals Kicks Off
Dot Doto, a group founded mainly by creators from the Doto (Eastern Hokkaido) area, has launched a new project to publish the "Unofficial Vision Book of Doto." The crowdfunding page for the project went live on June 21, 2021.
In June 2020, Dot Doto published the unofficial guidebook for the Doto area, ".doto." Created in collaboration with many creators and friends from both inside and outside Hokkaido, the book became a hot topic for its engaging production process and rich content, with a total of over 10,000 copies printed. It also gained significant attention after winning the Grand Prize in the "Regional Revitalization Category (Cabinet Office, Director-General for Regional Revitalization Award)" at the Japan Local Contents Award 2020.
Now, Dot Doto has launched a new project to create an unofficial vision book for Doto, gathering the ideals of 1,000 people. Kazumori Nozawa of Dot Doto explains the background of the project:
The vision book is scheduled for completion around the summer of 2022. The crowdfunding campaign offers plans to join the book's production and events, similar to the previous ".doto" project where many people participated. Why not join in?

The guidebook ".doto" was a way to visualize the dots (connections) we had made so far. We, who felt the limits of what one person could do in each region, have realized through working on projects together that what's impossible alone becomes possible as a team. We feel the potential to connect with like-minded peers and skills across the wider Doto area to make our ideals a reality. We decided to create a "Vision Book" with the desire to share this with many more people.
We want to increase the number of things that are not just 'living in Doto because we have to,' but 'because we can do it in Doto' or 'because it's Doto that we can do it.' We want to create a platform for people to share what they want to achieve and what they can do, and we hope they will embrace the idea of 'creating the future of Doto with our own hands.'
An ideal doesn't have to be grand; something as simple as 'I want to keep living in a house with a view of the Hidaka Mountains' is perfectly fine. We want not only people connected to Doto but also those who are just thinking of visiting to share the ideals they'd like to realize in Doto.
We have also set up rewards that allow people to participate in the production process. For those who are thinking, 'I want a chance to connect with people in my hometown of Doto' or 'I want to try something, but I don't know where to start,' we have rewards that offer plenty of opportunities to get involved. We hope you'll take this chance to create the vision book with us.
