On the site of the legendary club "King Xmhu," a long-beloved landmark in Susukino, the new "Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage" celebrated its grand opening on June 26, 2025. This 125-room apartment hotel features a kitchen and washing machine in every room. The hotel also inherits iconic objects from the King Xmhu era, creating a remarkable space where nostalgia and novelty coexist. We visited the hotel to report on its charms.

King Xmhu before its closure in 2023

Opened in 1991 as a disco during Japan's bubble economy, "King Xmhu" was known as a Susukino landmark, beloved by many for its unique exterior and interior reminiscent of ancient Mexican ruins. Due to the building's aging and redevelopment, it was closed and demolished in 2023, and construction of a new hotel has been underway. Many locals were surely curious to see what would become of the King Xmhu site.

The result is the newly opened "Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage." It's a 14-story building with a total of 125 rooms. This is a welcome number of rooms, especially during peak times like major concerts at large dome venues or the Sapporo Snow Festival season, when hotels can be scarce.

An eye that seems to watch over those entering the hotel!

As you approach the entrance, a large, glaring eye on the left catches your attention. This is a repurposed object that once adorned the outer wall of King Xmhu.

This fun feature creates a sense of the extraordinary and a feeling of entering another world from the moment you step into the hotel, and it's likely to become a popular photo spot. For those who knew King Xmhu, it will evoke nostalgia, while for first-time visitors, it will be a fresh surprise.

The reception area, reminiscent of King Xmhu

The reception (front desk) area and common spaces also have a unique atmosphere. Objects that once decorated King Xmhu's bar counter and VIP rooms have been incorporated.

In the first-floor elevator hall, there's a slightly mysterious piece of art that looks like a stone slab excavated from ruins. Try waving your hand over it to see what happens.

Two semi-double beds, perfect for sleeping with children

In contrast to the common areas that retain the mysterious world of King Xmhu, the guest rooms have a natural atmosphere. This is a 55-square-meter twin room. It has a maximum capacity of four people and features two semi-double beds.

Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage offers many spacious rooms, with 110 of its 125 rooms being over 40 square meters and equipped with two beds. This makes it a great option for groups and families to stay together.

In addition to the spacious bed area, there is a dining table for four and a sofa set, ensuring a comfortable time spent in the room.

The large closet is another key feature. It's spacious enough to be a lifesaver during seasons when bulky winter items like heavy outerwear and snow boots take up a lot of space.

The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, cutlery, glasses, dishes, a large refrigerator, an electric kettle, an IH stove, and a microwave. You could buy Hokkaido specialties like melon, corn, or crab and enjoy them in your room.

As a local, I'd also recommend taking advantage of the hotel's location, which is within walking distance of beloved 24-hour Sapporo institutions like "Nigirimeshi" and "Sandria." You could go for a morning stroll and pick up breakfast.

The bathroom is a separate type, making it easy for parents and children to bathe together. Both the bathtub and the washing area are large and spacious.

There is also a washing machine in the vanity area. All rooms in the hotel are equipped with a kitchen and a washing machine, allowing you to stay as if you were living there.

While the twin rooms are spacious, the even larger "Suites" are over 100 square meters. With a maximum capacity of 8 people, they are perfect for three-generation family trips or group travel.

The bedroom is also large, with plenty of space to open up large suitcases. In addition to the main bathroom and toilet, the master bedroom has its own luxurious shower booth, toilet, and sink.

A dining table where everyone can eat together

The living space is filled with natural light. There is a large dining table, allowing everyone to gather and share a meal. From the 14th-floor window, we had a clear view all the way to the Mt. Moiwa area.

A kitchen that makes you want to buy Sapporo ingredients and cook

The island-style kitchen, connected to the living and dining area, is not a mini-kitchen but a full-sized, spacious one. It's convenient for cooking or placing ingredients you've bought.

There are a total of three 108-square-meter suites on the top floor, each with a different interior design. The living spaces feature subtle touches of Hokkaido, such as the use of Sapporo soft stone or motifs of white birch trees.

A vanity area where two people can do their makeup or brush their teeth at the same time

With two sinks side-by-side, you won't have to fight over the mirror while getting ready in the morning. The magnifying mirror is also a nice touch.

Lando Hotel Sapporo Heritage is impressive not only for being a new and functional apartment hotel but also for preserving the building and culture of King Xmhu as a heritage. I felt that this hotel inherits and reconstructs the memory, or history, of this land. It is especially recommended for long-term stays and group travel.
