Hoshino Resort Tomamu, a nature wonder resort where you can feel the land of Hokkaido, started operating "Unkai Terrace" for this season on May 9, 2024. The Sea of Clouds Terrace is an observation facility that allows visitors to get up close and personal to view the sea of clouds that occurs when the weather conditions are just right. This year, a new gondola with a unique viewing spot called "Contour Bench" was created, and in June, clam chowder made with Tomamu milk from cows grazing in the on-site farm area will be available at the new Kumo Cafe.

The Sea of Clouds Terrace is a viewing facility where visitors can get a close-up view of the sea of clouds that occurs when the weather conditions are just right. Located 1,088 meters above sea level on Mt. Tomamu, it is accessible via the Unkai Gondola, which takes about 13 minutes one way. Before the Sea of Clouds Terrace opened, the staff of the ski resort who maintained the gondola in the summer saw the sea of clouds on a daily basis. In 2021, the terrace will be renovated and reopened with a 12-meter-high, three-story observation deck. At Unkai Terrace, visitors can view the far-reaching sea of clouds and the Hidaka Mountains from six observation spots. Visitors can also enjoy cloud-themed drinks and sweets from the indoor cafe, Kumo Cafe, while spending time at their leisure. Many visitors come to the park every year, and by the fall of 2023, the total number of visitors reached 1.6 million.

Two contents to be introduced in 2024
1. Tomamu Milk Clam Chowder with Many Ingredients to Warm the Body
In June, the indoor cafe "Kumo Cafe" located on the observation deck will start serving clam chowder made with Tomamu milk. Visitors can enjoy warming themselves with clam chowder while waiting for the sea of clouds on the terrace, which is at a high altitude and chilly in the early morning, while gazing at the scenery or relaxing on the outdoor sofas.
2. Newly Designed Unkai Gondola
In the hope that visitors will fully enjoy the spectacular view from the top of the mountain, the "Cloud9 (Cloud Nine) Plan" is underway at Unkai Terrace, offering nine different ways to spend the day. In 2024, one of these gondolas will be built in the motif of "Contour Bench," a 117-meter-long bench that resembles a contour line. The gondola is one of 100 gondolas with a limited design.

The "Cloud9 Project," which proposes nine ways to spend time at the Sea of Clouds Terrace, was named after the phrase "I am on cloud nine. Under this plan, six observation spots have been completed as of May 2024. With the hope that visitors will experience "unparalleled happiness" at Cloud Sea Terrace, visitors can enjoy the spectacular view from different angles by touring the six observation spots along the mountain path.

Unkai Terrace Opening Ceremony 2024

The Unkai Terrace Opening Ceremony is held every year on the opening day of the Unkai Terrace, with the hope that many people will be able to see the sea of clouds. This year, 445 visitors came to the ceremony and colored the sky by sending soap bubbles and white bubbles resembling clouds from the observation deck. At the same time, we held a champagne opening, which is meant to open the future, and distributed limited tickets for the ceremony.
