"Shiraoi Chepu Festival" is an event to pray for a good catch of salmon and safety of fishing, and to give thanks for the blessings of the sea.

The festival features a variety of programs including traditional Ainu dance and mukkuri (mouth harp) performances, a traditional marek fishing experience, the sale of salmon at discount prices, the sale of traditional Ainu food using salmon such as chepuohau (soup with sambira) and chima chepu (grilled skewers), a salmon lottery, an Ainu language quiz contest, catching salmon and rainbow trout, and much more. There will also be an Ainu quiz game, catching salmon and rainbow trout, and many other programs. This is a food and hands-on event that everyone from children to adults can enjoy, so please come and have fun.
