The first Hokkaido Culture Meeting was held in Sapporo in 1959 as a forum to discuss the transmission, creation, and development of Hokkaido's local culture. The Hokkaido Broadcasting Corporation (HBC) broadcast live coverage of the event. At the time, social movements to raise the value of "culture" were flourishing, and many cultural figures gathered at gatherings in various parts of Hokkaido. This year marks the 66th anniversary of the festival.

The theme of this year's Cultural Forum is "Will local culture disappear? -What is the charm of our city, Kushiro, that overcame Corona? What exactly is local culture and what is its charm? Even if you were born and raised in your hometown and think you know everything there is to know about it, you can find unexpected interesting things and encounters when you change your point of view. Although the number of pedestrians in the city center is decreasing, Kushiro is attracting an increasing number of long-term residents and tourists who are attracted by its cool "climate. We will talk about what we are facing, who we are connecting with, and where we are going in order to nurture local culture in Kushiro.
