It is one of the most scenic spots in Japan, with a series of cliffs about 100 meters high, and on a clear day you can see as far as Cape Esan and the Shimokita Peninsula. On New Year's Day, it is crowded with tourists from as far away as the Kansai region and the Sapporo area to watch the first sunrise of the year.
*Traffic restrictions will be in place around Cape Chikyu between 0:00 and 8:00 on January 1st. Additionally, the Cape Chikyu parking lot will be unavailable.
