One of the seasonal sights of winter in Hakodate is the sight of many Japanese macaques living in the Monkey Mountain at the Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden relaxing in hot springs. It's heartwarming to see them relaxing in the hot springs to keep warm.
You can also purchase special monkey food (100 yen) and experience feeding the monkeys through the fence.
