Before
2nd Snow Hide-and-Seek International Tournament 2025 @Shakotan, Hokkaido
Date and Time
2025/2/23
12:45-16:00 (Registration begins at 12:00)
A hide-and-seek tournament will be held in the snowy mountains of Shakotan, Hokkaido, where temperatures can drop to -10°C! This year will be the second time the tournament has been held. Ranger members of the Self-Defense Forces, members of the Antarctic wintering team, the Japanese hide-and-seek representative, and triathletes will participate! With overwhelming tension and thorough safety management, it's a fun game in the snow!!
■What are the official rules of Hide and Seek at the World Championships?
There is actually a world championship for hide-and-seek, and the last one was held in Italy, with 80 teams from 40 countries competing.
The European countries are in 1st place Italy, 2nd place France, and 3rd place Spain, and Japan is ranked 9th in the world. The Japanese hide-and-seek representative will also be participating on the day and will teach you the tricks!
The rules are basically the same as kick the can. The Oni is selected by the Japan Hide-and-Seek Association. You hide for the first 30 seconds, and if you can return to the mat and touch the Oni without being found within 3 minutes after he wakes up, you win. On the other hand, if the Oni finds you, guesses the color of the color bib you are wearing, and touches the mat first in a different state, you lose.
■What kind of town is Shakotan?
"Shakotan" means "summer village" in Ainu. The area experiences heavy snowfall in the winter, which is as harsh as the Ainu people think. We want to transform this harsh environment, one of the most harsh in Japan, into one of the most enjoyable environments in Japan through the power of outdoor play. With that in mind, we decided to hold a hide-and-seek event in this Shakotan area. We also believe that because the rules are the same around the world, we can become a more international entertainment town than Niseko.
