We will be holding the "Colloquial Tanka and Namiki Bonpei Exhibition." This exhibition will trace the origins of the colloquial tanka movement, the activities of Namiki Bonpei, a poet with ties to Otaru, and the development of colloquial tanka from the postwar period to the present.
■ Purpose
Namiki Bonpei (real name Shinohara Saburo, 1891-1941), who came to Otaru in 1918 as a reporter for the Hokumon Shimpo newspaper, later became a reporter for the Otaru Shimbun newspaper and played an important role in the colloquial tanka movement in Hokkaido as a judge for the paper's tanka column, as editor and publisher of "Shin Tanka Jidai" and editor of "Aozora."
The colloquial tanka movement, which gradually spread from predecessors such as Nishide Tomokaze and Aoyama Kasumi, has been passed down as a minor stream that continues to this day.
