The Hokkaido Teshio River Scenic Byway Route will focus on Matsuura Takeshiro, who is said to have been the father of the name "Hokkaido" and explored the Teshio River Basin in northern Hokkaido, and will hold a seminar aimed at learning and knowing about the history and culture of the northern Hokkaido region, focusing on the Teshio River and Matsuura Takeshiro. As the first step in the initiative, we will invite Mr. Tamura from the National Ainu Museum to give a lecture on the Ainu culture of the Teshio River Basin, as traced through Takeshiro's diary.
Let's all join together and deepen our knowledge of the history and culture of Hokkaido, the Teshio River, and Matsuura Takeshiro!
