Unraveling the power of blue carbon ecosystems through science!
Date and Time
2025/7/12
9:30-12:00 (Registration begins at 9:20)
As part of the "Tara JAMBIO Blue Carbon Project," we will be holding a marine education event called "Unraveling the Power of Blue Carbon Ecosystems through Science." This is an experiential program that allows people to learn about the "blue carbon ecosystem," which includes seaweed and seagrass, from a scientific perspective in a fun way. People of all ages can participate in seminars, beach clean-ups, biological observations, and experiments.
From Akkeshi to Oshiji - The diversity of blue carbon ecosystems revealed in each region
The "Tara JAMBIO Blue Carbon Project" is a project to investigate and raise awareness of blue carbon ecosystems in multiple locations across Japan. This will be the second time the project has been held in Hokkaido, following Akkeshi in 2024. At last year's event, participants gave positive feedback, saying things like, "It was interesting to see all the different creatures," and "I learned about different types of seaweed."
The setting for this event is Oshoro, located at the base of the Shakotan Peninsula. Observing different ocean areas is a rare opportunity to experience the differences and diversity of ecosystems in each region. Through the keyword "blue carbon," we will provide an experience that connects the future of our local oceans and the Earth.
■ Capacity: Approximately 20 people
