-Introduction to Otaru Noh Theatre
This Noh stage was built in 1926 on the premises of the home of Ken Okazaki, a Sado native who was a successful hardware and grain merchant. It was donated to the city of Otaru in 1954, and moved to its current location in 1961 when the town hall was relocated.
The pine on the mirror panel and the bamboo at the door opening were painted in accordance with the traditional style by the 17th master of the Kano school, Kano Yoshinobu.

Yoshimatsu School Wakayagi School Kyoho-kai
In 1956, Wakayagi Yoshishiro became the first Kyofu and established the Yoshimatsu School Wakayagi School. In 1997, the current head of the school, Kotama, a beloved disciple of the first head of the school, took on the name of the third Kyofu. The school moved its headquarters to Sapporo, Hokkaido. In 2005, the current head of the school, Fukuo, became the fourth Kyofu and hosted a cultural exchange performance in Okinawa between the north and south. He also participated in a sister city cultural exchange program with China's Heilongjiang Province as a representative of Hokkaido. He also performed at the National Cultural Festival (Ibaraki, Yamanashi, Niigata). In 2022, Wakayagi Ichiyo took over as the fifth Wakayagi Kyofu. For three generations, parents, children, and grandchildren, we have been working to convey to the young people of the next generation the good old things of Japan, such as traditional culture, regional culture, etiquette and manners, and customs that should be passed down, through Japanese dance in Hokkaido.
