Otaru Canal is visited by tourists from all over the world. The North Canal Night Market Yummy Market is a night market held for 10 days during Silver Week in September, where a variety of shops sell food, drinks, miscellaneous goods, accessories, and more, all set up at the fantastically illuminated Otaru Canal.

This mystery-solving project was created by local high school students. You can have fun rediscovering the charm of Otaru while solving questions related to the city and canals of Otaru. Prizes will also be awarded to those with high scores.

■Otaru Canal Lanterns (Organized by: Otaru University of Commerce, Inoguchi Seminar)
The Otaru Canal Lantern Festival is an event that celebrates the history of Otaru, a city once known as the "heart" of Hokkaido, where goods collected from all over Hokkaido were loaded onto Kitamaebune ships and delivered to the rest of the country. Participants are invited to write their dreams on lanterns and float them down the Otaru Canal. Please write your wishes, favorite words, or illustrations on handmade lanterns, and let the light of your lantern illuminate Otaru's beautiful canal at night.
