This year marks the 45th edition of the Sapporo White Illumination, a seasonal event that colors Sapporo in the winter. The illuminations, which began in 1981 with approximately 1,000 light bulbs in the Odori Park (Odori Nishi 2-chome) plaza, have grown in scale and content every year, becoming one of Japan's leading events. In addition to the installation of a symbolic object at the Odori venue, beautifully sparkling tree decorations will be displayed at venues to the north and south of Sapporo Ekimae-dori, Kita 3-jo Plaza (Akapla), and the south exit of Sapporo Station, and at venues to the east and west of Minami 1-jo-dori.
