This exhibition will display all 26 pieces from our collection, which are masterpieces by Vincent van Gogh expressed as Venetian glass mosaic paintings. They were created by the artisans of the Mosaic Artisans Cooperative Cooperativa/Masaicisti (now the Ravenna Mosaic Artisans Group Gruppo/Mosaicisti/Ravenna), who are involved in the restoration of cultural heritage in Ravenna, Italy, a treasure trove of historically valuable mosaic murals.
While adopting the method of capturing light with colors that began with Impressionism, Gogh's stippled paintings, which developed into his unique powerful colors and brushstrokes, closely resemble the texture of glass mosaics, which became the inspiration for the idea of 'expressing Gogh's works using the glass mosaic technique'. In response to our museum's plan, the mosaic artisans of Ravana enthusiastically took on this challenge, which was also their first attempt, and completed the works over approximately three years. You can enjoy the charm of Gogh's paintings shining with thousands of pieces of glass, and the splendor of traditional glass mosaic techniques.
