This is a major winter event in southern Hokkaido that began in 1965. Every year, a jumbo slide is set up, which is extremely popular with children, and there are also exhibitions of impressive snow sculptures and ice carvings, which are the art of ice. Visitors are also entertained by a flea market and an exhibition and sale of local specialties.

During the festival, a variety of events are held, and stalls are set up. In addition to the events, the contrast between the silvery white Mount Komagatake and the icy blue sky at Onuma in winter creates a beautiful landscape.
