EVENT
Lake Toro Smelt Fishing <2026>
Date and Time
2026/1/5~
The name Lake Toro comes from the Ainu words "To-Oro" (To: lake (swamp), Oro: place), written in kanji. The surrounding area is also a special area of the national park and a wildlife sanctuary, and is home to birds such as white-tailed eagles and grey herons, as well as smelt, which make the lake a popular place for smelt fishing on the ice in winter.
