Iwata Ruri's works value the sense of glass "being there" and explore the characteristics and possibilities of the material. They can be broadly divided into two types: "three-dimensional works" and "craft works." The three-dimensional works combine pale green glass, cast using a casting technique, with other materials such as black iron. The stripped-down glass masses create a powerful yet tranquil space, demonstrating the possibilities of glass as a material.
The craft works are made using the free-blowing technique, and are thick vessels with free-form shapes and vibrant colors such as transparent or red or black, and their rich volume harmonizes gracefully with the space. This exhibition explores the appeal of Iwata's creative world from both sides of his creative process.
