EVENT
1st Saturday Citizen Seminar for Fiscal Year 2026 "The Future Beyond the 'Toilet': A New Form of Water and Sanitation Created with Children"
Date and Time
2026/4/11
13:30-15:00
Sanitation (water and hygiene) is an indispensable foundation that supports our health, but it is not simply a matter of technology or toilet installation. In this lecture, we will introduce "co-creation" initiatives from around the world, from the perspective of viewing sanitation as a "value chain" in local communities.
In Zambia, children visualized local issues through photographs and drawings, and in Indonesia, a circular model was built to turn human waste into resources. Also, in a depopulated mountain village in Japan, high school students are participating in activities to protect the water infrastructure. We will unravel the process by which the young people and children who will lead the next generation, together with researchers, perceive issues as their "own business" and create solutions, and we will think together with all of you about the path to protecting the Earth and our health.
