Mizu-matsu (water pine tree) of the overlook
In 1914, when the entire neighborhood was damaged by a forest fire, this yew tree was the only one that was not damaged by a single branch, and it has since been considered a sacred tree.
It was called Aoyama no mizu-matsu (Aoyama water pine), but is now called mizumematsu (overlooking water pine).
Also designated as a Hokkaido Memorial Protected Tree, it is 17 meters tall and is said to be over 1,300 years old.
