Peace Light Park
On September 1, 1996, in commemoration of the establishment of the city of Kitahiroshima as a city, the "Light of Peace" in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima City was divided and lit.
The City of Kitahiroshima, together with the Citizens' Circle to Preserve the Peace Lamp, holds the "Peace Lamp Commemorative Event" every year.
In 1988, Hiroshima declared itself a "City of Peace" with the aim of making each and every citizen aware of the preciousness and importance of peace and praying for the realization of lasting peace. In 1996, we created the "Peace Lamp Park" and have continued to light the "Peace Lamp," which is a torch that is separated from the "Peace Lamp" in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima City, which has a close historical relationship with our city. In 2008, we became a member of Mayors for Peace, and have been working together with Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and other cities around the world toward lasting world peace. In addition, together with the citizens' group "Citizens' Association for Peace Lights," we hold the "Peace Lights Commemorative Project" every year to raise awareness of peace among citizens.
