SPOT
Tarumaezan
Tarumaezan, 1,041 meters above sea level, is derived from the Ainu word taroi mai (high place on the riverbank). At the top is a lava dome, designated as a natural monument of Hokkaido, and is known as a triple active volcano, which is rare in the world.
The 7th station can be reached by car, and it takes only about an hour to reach the summit from the 7th station, making it a popular observation point from which to view the panorama of Lake Shikotsu.
The road to the 7th station parking lot is closed in winter (late November to late May).
Note: Due to the eruption of volcanic gases, the inner rim of the mountain is off-limits.
