Lake Shikotsu Visitor Center
The Lake Shikotsu Visitor Center is a facility where visitors can enjoy learning about the history of Lake Shikotsu and the surrounding nature.
The center introduces the great nature of Lake Shikotsu attractively with models and large photographs of the still active volcano, the ecology of the creatures around Lake Shikotsu, and the world inside the lake, as well as a video explaining the geological history of Lake Shikotsu and listening to birdsong. The museum also introduces the charms of Lake Shikotsu in all its glory. A life-size (about 9m) photo panel is also displayed to show the inside of the moss cave, which attracts many visitors every day.
In addition, events to enjoy the nature around the Visitor Center are held regularly to let many people know the charm of Lake Shikotsu. Various nature activities such as cycling, fishing, mountain climbing, and snowshoe walks are held (advance registration required).
