Kanda Nissho Memorial Museum of Art

This museum has a permanent collection of almost half of the representative works of Nissho Kanda, Hokkaido's leading Western-style painter, who died of illness at the young age of 32 in 1970, despite his talent being sorely missed. His vividly realistic style of painting has earned him an immortal reputation.

The museum houses and exhibits paintings, drawings, and other related materials by Kanda Hisakatsu (1937-1970), a Western-style painter associated with the town of Kaoi. The centerpiece of the collection is "Horse (unfinished)," an unfinished work painted in the year of his death, which is also used as the museum's logo.

The museum offers loaner audio tour devices to assist visitors in viewing the collection. The terminal is mainly used for the permanent exhibition (collection exhibition), and provides visitors with a 10- to 15-minute explanation of the museum's collection, guided by actor Ryo Yoshizawa. Please ask at the museum reception desk if you wish to listen to this service.
