Road Designated Cultural Property "Hongwanji Post Station"
Hongwanji Post Station was built in Meiji 27th year, and in Meiji 33rd year was officially approved as a post station office. At that time, as a key point of transportation heading to Rumoi direction from Sapporo or Asahikawa direction, it was a building that rested travelers and horses, and furthermore collected and delivered letters to people who were striving in pioneering in remote areas. It is also one of the few currently existing post stations within Hokkaido that is retaining its old form, and in Showa 46th year it was designated as a Hokkaido-designated cultural property.
