Tomorrow Sprout (Ashimoi)'s Village
The location shooting for Suzuran was conducted two times, in December Heisei 10 and May Heisei 11, and many cast members of "Suzuran" visited Numata, and many Numata townspeople cooperated as extras.
The first location shooting was conducted in the cold, with snow falling, centering on scenes of the station front street during the Taisho era and early Showa period.
The second location shooting was conducted centering on scenes of getting on and off SLs from the early Showa period era.
■Ebishima Station, which became Ashimo Station
"Moe," the protagonist of "Suzuran," was picked up by the station master at a small station called Ashimo (a fictional station), and grows by overcoming various adversities.
The stage for that story is Ebishima Station on the JR Rumoi Main Line. Ebishima Station was chosen for reasons such as the tracks being straight as far as the eye can see, there being no modern things around the station that would be problematic in the early Showa period, and the station front square and road having the atmosphere of a main street.
The actual Ebishima Station's station building was renovated in September Meiji 40, and after that, in November Showa 61, the station building was demolished, and it became an unmanned station where a simple station building, which was a modified brake van, was placed. This time, upon filming the drama, that simple station building was covered with old materials, and next to it, a station building from the early Showa period for the drama was reproduced.
