SPOT
Numata Town Fossil Experience Museum
As the name suggests, the museum aims to be a facility not for viewing, but for experiencing.
Inside the museum, there is a special corner where visitors can experience a simulated excavation of a Takahashi scallop fossil taken from a 5-million-year-old stratum in Numata Town, which can be cleaned after excavation and taken home.
Visitors can also experience mini-excavation and replica making at any time in the practical training room. The mini-excavation involves digging out small fossils and crystals from a lump of soil. For replicas, visitors can make a realistic-looking gypsum model of a hawksbill scallop or ammonite. Visitors can experience any one of these menu items for the price of admission only.
The exhibition room is also lined with reconstructed skeletons of paleontological creatures discovered in Numata Town, including a 12-meter-long giant Kubinagaryu, which will tickle the hearts of dinosaur fans.
