Horoshin Onsen Hotaru-kan
There are a star-studded number of public hot springs in the Sorachi region, but there are probably only a few that date back to the beginning of the Showa period....
It was in the summer of 1922 that Kenjo Eitokuji, chief priest of Eitokuji Temple in Ebishima, Numata-cho, received from his hometown in Toyama Prefecture a statue of the eleven-faced Kannon built in the early Edo period (1603-1868), and held a Kannon ko (Kannon festival) every year.
On August 17, 1928, on his way to the Kannon ko held in the Horoshin tribe, he found fresh water springing up from the ground. When people heard this story, they believed that the fresh water found on the day of the Kannon Festival must be the spiritual water of the Goddess of Kannon. Whenever they became ill, they would drink this "miraculous water.
Since then, the myth of this miraculous water has spread, and in 1963, a water quality analysis test was conducted and found to be effective in treating neuralgia, rheumatism, diabetes, and other ailments, leading to the establishment of the "Horoshin Onsen" corporation by a group of volunteers.
