Churui Naumann Elephant Memorial Museum
Like many discoveries, the Churui Naumann elephant fossil was accidentally found in July 1969 at a farm road construction site in Bansei, Churui. The excavation was conducted by many researchers, teachers, and students, and 47 fossils, or approximately 70-80% of the total skeleton, were unearthed. The Naumann Elephant Memorial Museum was opened in August 1988 to commemorate this discovery. The museum exhibits the history of the Naumann elephant from its discovery to its reconstruction in an easy-to-understand manner, including a reconstructed full-body skeleton of the elephant discovered in the main exhibition hall.
